Basic information about the company

Northern Shipping Company (JSC NSC, Arkhangelsk) is a Russian shipping company, one of the major in Northwest of Russia, providing carriage by sea all around the world, including Northern Sea Route. The full name is Joint Stock Company "Northern Shipping Company" (JSC NSC Arkhangelsk). The main office is situated in Arkhangelsk.

The company has rich experience in carriage by sea of the forestry production of the Arkhangelsk Region. NSC fleet consists of unitized dry cargo ships with DWT 2 500 - 9 250 tons which carry round all kinds of dry cargos including radioactive and dangerous goods. The fleet of the Company consists of 30 various purpose vessels: 18 vessels of shipping fleet, 7 vessels of dredging fleet, 5 vessels of technical fleet. The total deadweight of the vessels managed by NSC is 92 060 tons.

Northern Shipping Company carries out liner services, tramp and multi-modal transportation, delivery of cargo to unimproved port facilities, provides tug assistance and technical management (repair works, supply, ship chandler and storage services); arranges training of crew members, keeps charts, navigational aids and sailing directions up-to-date, provides vessels of river-sea type with charts of inland waterways.

NSC fleet has L1 ice class, a part of vessel has ice class Arc 5, Arc 4 that allows to work year-round in port of Arkhangelsk, in Scandinavian Ports, in the Gulf of Finland, and regularly on the Northern Sea Route. Ice-classed vessels are able to operate in hard ice areas. The company and its fleet are certified in accordance with requirements of the ISM Code that guarantee the safety of cargo throughout the route. External audit carried out by Russian Maritime Register of Shipping in 2017 has shown that Safety management system of JSC "Northern shipping company" corresponds to the ISM Code.


Work in Arctic region and on the Northern Sea Route

NSC fleet has been working traditionally and regularly in Arctic region making exceptional professional and qualified voyages taking into consideration hard weather and technical conditions. Over 2007 to 2009 period NSC fleet has carried out unloading operations to ice piers in Kharasavey. From 2007 till 2014 NSC vessels have taken part in construction of Bovanenkovo-Ukhta underwater gas trunk line (Yamal project of Gazprom) delivering concrete pipes to the "MRTS-Defender" complex in Baydaratskaya Bay of the Kara Sea. Along with serial vessels as m/v "Mekhanik Yartsev", also m/v "Mikhail Lomonosov" and m/v "Kholmogory" have participated in transportation. In 2011, arctic sea carriage along the Northern Sea Route has acquired uniqueness due to transported cargo. Bulky cargo-manifold total weight of 407 tons has been delivered by m/v "Pioner Moldavii" from Norway to Sakhalin for the project "Sakhalin-3". M/v "Tekhnolog Konyukhov" and m/v "Pioner Karelii" have delivered equipment for installation of weather station to the transpolar port Tiksi. In September 2011 m/v "Pavel Korchagin" made a voyage along the Arctic carrying economic cargos. The vessel called at Franz Josef Land, Cape Zhelaniya, Solnechnaya Bay, Dickson, Belushya bay and small islands of the Arctic Ocean. In November 2011 m/v "Kapitan Ryntsyn" made a voyage to Varandey carrying equipment and heavy technique for oil industry workers. In summer 2012 m/v "Iohann Mahmastal" delivered cargoes for a mining company to Anabar in Yakutia. In August 2012 the state program for long-term environmental remediation of Franz Josef Archipelago has started from Arkhangelsk.

M/v "Tekhnolog Konyukhov" has delivered heavy off-road vehicles, tractors and waste containers. In October 2012 m/v "Pavel Korchagin" and m/v "Ivan Ryabov" delivered the first cargo of scrap metal from Franz Josef Land. From 2012, vessels of Northern Shipping Company have been actively involved in cargo transportation to port Sabetta and soon volume of transportation is to increase significantly. In summer navigation vessels of the type of "Mekhanik Yartsev", and in winter m/v "Inzhener Veshnyakov" or "Inzhener Trubin" are supposed to sail on this particular route. NSC tugs "Nord" and "Viking" work in Arctic region: in Dickson, Dudinka, Baydaratskaya Bay, Tiksi, Murmansk, Kharasavey, Sabetta. Every year icebreaker-tug "Nord" makes towing of various marine objects from Arkhangelsk to Spitsbergen. In 2013 m/v "Inzhener Trubin" became a member of experimental expedition Tyumen - Sabetta - China - New Port having made the first historic voyage from a new building port Sabetta (Yamal). In spring 2013, m/v "Inzhener Veshnyakov" unloaded on land fast ice of Sabetta; in summer, m/v "Tekhnolog Konyukhov" delivered cargoes to Cape Zhelaniya Novaya Zemlya), m/v "Inzhener Veshnyakov" delivered cargoes to Cape Schmidt (Chukotka).

During navigation 2014 NSC, Arkhangelsk became an active participant of a vast logistic chain aimed to develop Arctic infrastructure according to the order of Ministry of Defense of Russian Federation. As part of the development program NSC motorvessels "Iohann Mahmastal" and "Inzhener Veshnyakov" delivered construction materials to build townships on Wrangel Island and the far-eastern Shmidt Cape. The cargo was discharged to unequipped shore in severe weather conditions. For the first time in NSC history motorvessel "Inzhener Trubin" was discharged using the helicopters. The navigation to Sabetta (Yamal LNG project) became year-round and uninterruptable. The volume of cabotage (domestic) shipping increased three-fold comparing to last year.

In accordance with the decision of the Director's Board of the JSC NSC the motor-vessels "Kapitan Mironov", "Kapitan Yakovlev", "Alexandr Sibiryakov", have been transferred from the commercial management into the bareboat charter, into the Russian International Register Book of vessels since the middle of 2015 in order to expand extensively the area of coasting navigation along the strategic Northern Sea Route. The bunkering barges "Onega" and "Pinega" delivered fuels and lubricants to the Arctic ports and sea points of the Northern Sea Route.

The port of Sabetta (LNG Yamal project) became the main destination for the ships of the NSC during the navigation of 2016.The Company's fleet has established a reputation as a specialized and responsible carrier for the four years of the year-round work.

In accordance with the results of 2016 the vessels of the NSC made 36 voyages in the Arctic region, transported more than 160 tons of economic cargoes. Dudinka,Khatanga,Pevek,Solnechnaya and Mod Bays,Franz-Josef Land, Novaya Zemlya became the new destinations for the NSC.The motor -vessels"Inzhener Veshnyakov","Inzhener Trubin", "S.Kuznetsov","Ivan Ryabov" actively transported different cargoes along the North Sea Route.

In 2016 the m/v "Kapitan Mironov" being for the first time in the Baltic Line service called at the recently opened multifunctional sea transporting complex"Bronka"(MSTC "Bronka"). She delivered equipment including bulky and of non-standard size from the port of Antwerp.


The liner service

The NSC shipping-line service guarantees regular delivery of cargo and containers via the ports of Arkhangelsk and Saint- Petersburg to European ports such as Antwerpen, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Le Havre. Liner vessels are equipped for transportation of 20-,40-foot containers, refrigeration containers, out-of-gauge cargos.


The dredging fleet

The Company provides a wide range of dredging services. At the moment the dredging fleet of NSC consists of two hopper dredgers and one marine self-propelled elevator dredger. During the last years the dredging fleet of NSC has completed contracts not only in Russia but also in Europe, in the Middle East, in Africa. On Varandey the dredging fleet provided the efficient service of hydraulicking of sand and grave mix for the construction works of the oil industry workers.

The fleet provides full spectrum of dredging works, including maintenance dredging works in sea and river channels, coast line reclamation, beach nourishment for waterside building. In 2013-2014 the dredging fleet of the NSC carries out projects for offshore dredging of approach channels to the ports of Arkhangelsk and Severodvinsk. H/d "Dvinskiy Zaliv" has made dredging in Baydaratskaya Bay, h/d "Belomorskiy" has been successfully operating in port of Malabo (Equatorial Guinea).

In 2015 the dredger "Onezhskiy" actively operated in the ports of the Azov and Black seas: Temryuk, Kavkaz and Tuapse. The dredger "Belomorskiy" continued fulfilling the long-term agreement in Equatorial Guinea.

In the summer of 2016 the suction dredger "Belomorsky" joined the dredging fleet of the NSC having worked a long contract in a foreign leasing. In October-December ,2016 the hopper-dredger "Dvinsky Zaliv"cooperating with the fleet of diesel boats successfully carried out dredging operations in the port of Murmansk according to the contract with the Murmansk Transporting branch PJS Company "MMC Norilsk Nickel".The dredger "Onezhsky" operated in the Azov-Black Sea region being based in the port of Tuapse.


Other services

The complex "Meridian" belonged to "NSC" includes the comfortable Hotel (consists of 78 rooms) and health centre (more than 2000 people have a rest during the year). All the rooms are furnished with the satellite TV, wireless Internet, autonomous system of conditioning and climate-control, mini-bar, individual safe box, bath or shower unit. The Hotel offers the rest in the " Guest House" -the wood house with the comfortable rooms.

The other divisions belonging to NSC provide their services to people and organizations: the test laboratory and proof room.
